The Inexplainable

Yesterday I passed through the room Heaven Admin was working in on my way to the laundry room.  I never want to disturb Heaven Admin  so I didn’t say anything.

On my way back, Heaven Admin must have turned my way, however, so I was going to say something.

I meant to say, “Howdy!” in a friendly way and keep going.

Did you ever have the wrong word come out of your mouth?

Instead of “Howdy!” I found myself saying, “Heidi!”

Of all the off-the-wall comments in my life, this one stands out. How embarrassing. Why was I going to say a Westerner’s “Howdy!” to Heaven Admin in the first place? Of course, I cannot explain the absurdity of “Heidi!” coming out of my mouth.

But the really funny thing is that five minutes later, the phone rang in my office, and who was it calling me? Someone I had not heard from in at least a month, and her name is Heidi!!!!!

If I pass by Heaven Admin again, and he looks up, and I say, “Patsy!”, will I get a call from Patsy in five minutes?

Yes. You will.
That is your intuitive voice calling “Heidi.”

Just out of curiousity, how did Heaven Admin respond?

I suppose he responded “yes” in a sweet voice. As a gentleman, he would never contradict a lady.

The best I remember he looked at me struck in wonder and awe!

When something like that happens, best thing to do is to be cool, and act like you meant to say it. If he asks, make up some obscure family tradition story that makes it make sense.

Cab Calloway may have technically been alive during much of my my lifetime but unfortunately I was only aware of him thru secondary sources. The same may be true for you.

His trademark greeting “Hidee-ho!” should cover your supposed gaffe. A man of Admin’s talents should easily be able to bring up a video in all its glory. It is true that Hidee-ho has suffered an unfortunate turn of the vernacular but “Hidee-hi” will serve just as well.

Reminds me of the time my 18 mo. old son and I were in the book section of a discount store. I was reading book titles to him. Yes, one was “Heidi” and a woman passing by our cart, replied, “hi-dee!”

Remembering and Laughing,
Martha
