Lauren,
Well, my first few days at my new home were kind of an overload on my senses, but it wasn’t bad at all.
I did notice that there were a lot of fat birds that couldn’t fly so I sat for a whole day and just watched them. Dad said they were chickens, and after a while, Chance (my Australian shepherd brother) and I grabbed one and pulled it into the yard to play with.
Mom and Dad decided it was time to start my training for my new job.
The first two times I was taken into the pasture, I wandered away from Dad and stayed way away from the big white fluffy things Mom called sheep.
Then last night Chance and I got away from Dad while he was doing chores and ran into the pasture. It kinda scared them sheep and something went boooiiiiiing in my brain. Chance left in a hurry — and I ran the sheep about 30 yards and then sped up (they are kinda slow) and turned them around and ran ‘em the other way!
I got kinda confused ’cause Dad was happy and upset all at the same time. He told me a lot of the sheep were carrying babies and I couldn’t run them at full speed, but I did good for the first time herding.
Then he said we are going to start in the morning with new signals and commands so I do what he wants and not so much what I want. It sounds like fun, cause I’ll be the center of attention and spending a lot of time with Mom and Dad.
I did get to help with the unloading of feed today. Mom put me on my leash and I — just me — kept all the sheep away from Dad and the feed until he got it all put away.
Well, better go now. It’s time for lessons with Dad.
Jack
