A Mustard Seed

I recently saw part of a movie about a sorry high school football team that lost every game.

But something changed, and the team had a complete turn-around. What changed this team?

The coach inspired the team with the idea that with God anything is possible. That was what made all the difference. The team started to believe in themselves. And they weren’t only playing for themselves. They were in service to God.

This was a David and Goliath story. There was no way the little team could beat the big team. The little team didn’t have the strength nor the manpower. The only thing they could do is outsmart the big team. They had the determination, the players really stretched themselves, were no longer self-defeating, they played smart, and they did win the state championship!

There was a lot of solid Truth in this movie. It was beautiful to see.

Yet there was one theme that bothered me. It was the idea that God could do anything, BUT with the proviso that God could do anything so long as you had trust in Him.

I’m all for trust in God.

At the same time, I have the impression that God can do anything, and what He does is not dependent upon us. That’s just the point, it seems to me. God doesn’t have to bounce off us. That’s what unconditional means.

In the movie, the coach’s wife had so much faith in God, that after many years, she became pregnant. It’s like she earned the pregnancy. Would God be less if she had not become pregnant? If she had not become pregnant, would it mean that her trust was not enough, and that’s why she would not have become pregnant? It would have been her fault?

On the other hand, I believe very much in the following quotation:

“If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, ‘Remove hence to yonder place,’ and it shall remove.

So here I am again, on both sides of a question.

I agree. God does things on God’s own independent of our measly little human faith, prayers, intent etc. I should know. He’s pulled me out of the mud and set me back on the path many times when I was having a good time making mud pies. Most of the events of my life that I thought were disasters turned out to be blessings in disguise. I certainly didn’t have the faith or the foresight to ask God for these deliverances. God was looking out for me before I even acknowleged his presence. That’s how I came to realize there was a higher presence working in my life that I now actually have faith in. Luckily God didn’t wait for me to have faith first. God is not on the barter system giving us miracles for the faith we give him first. At least that’s the way I see it. Sally

I love Maharishi’s statement, which I heard on an old tape.. he says, laughing, “But the mountain doesn’t mooooove!” so true.

Difficult!!! I disagree with Sally about Intend. But that is my own opinion. I respect her opinion. I do not think that God will take sides in a sporting event. People that believe in themselves, yes that makes a huge difference. God can do anything and does.Thank You GOD.
God gave us this beautiful Earth and we almost destroyed it.people again are waking up. Thank you God Thank you for all you have given me and I love you God.Sorry God I have not always been the angel I could have been
