Vickie, the Doctor’s Nurse

Dr. Ivins’ nurse, Vickie, and I had quite a bit of time to talk when I was at the doctor’s the other day. She is a wonder. She is a happy woman in a happy marriage.

We were talking about exercise, and she said how every evening when she gets home from work she walks right by her elliptical machine.  Then she added: “You know, I just want to go sit on the couch with my husband and hold hands.”

This is her second marriage. Her first husband died. She met her present husband on a blind date, the only blind date she ever had.

She has no complaints with this wonderful man she married. After eighteen years, she says it’s like she’s still on her honeymoon.

I tried to figure out her secret. From what I could tell, she doesn’t look for fault, and she is simply easy to please. She is content with everything she has. She doesn’t begin to think that she needs anything more. She is an example of the good-natured woman who is beyond rubies.

She mentioned that when her friends complain about their husbands are always off hunting or whatever, she would say to them: “If you want your husband to be with you, then go with him!”

At first when I met Vickie, she was just a nice friendly doctor’s nurse. Now I see she is kinda my hero.

Does Vickie have children?

I wonder if familiarity can be an obstacle in relationships? What would happen if partners looked at each other everyday as if they are looking at a totally new person (and they are)?

Could be that Vickie recognizes her partner, yet sees him with new eyes everyday.

Yes, Vickie has children. Two from her first marriage, and two from her nice husband’s first marriage.

It must be what you say, yet Vickie considers herself just so lucky. She sure knows how to appreciate.

One, I wish you could have seen her face light up when she would talk about her husband!
