Yesterday around dusk a sweet little baby white egret was walking around the back yard. My neighbor Jeanette took some food out and put it on the little table in my yard. I joined her. We both wanted to meet the new baby. He didn’t notice the food on the table so Jeanette offered him some food by hand. At that point a large white egret (Edger) flew over from across the pond and landed on the edge of the roof very close by to watch from above. We wondered why Edgar didn’t come down and join us. Then we realized the little egret was Edgar’s baby and Edgar was watching over him, just making sure we humans and baby were okay together. Baby finally realized the food was on the little table and stretched his tiny head up and ate from the table. Little Petey (tiny snowy egret, with skinny black legs and yellow feet) joined us, but didn’t eat, just stood near Baby. They are about the same size. Edgar watched for a while and when he was satisfied things were going well he flew back across the pond and watched from there. Edgar is a very wise mother. That was the first time we had seen Baby. I wonder if Edgar sent him and he didn’t just wander into the yard by chance. I also suspect Edgar is Edgar-Etta.

Senor, Bev now lives in Florida. From Fairfield, she had moved to Portland, Oregon. Thank goodness for the internet to keep in touch with good friends. And artists with a sense of humor like Mauro!

Senora, the story that Bev tells and the Chucky incident is begging for some sketches from Mauro! I can see so well the images Bev describes.

I wonder where Bev lives now! Sounds like a paradise. I've been living in the city for the past month. One has to be alert to glimpse the beauty in cities. Its there, just not as apparent as it is in land where Mother Nature is the queen.

Was there ever anyone who has loved dear animal friends more than you, Bev? I don't think so. I would love to read a blog you write every day. :)

Regarding Chucky, he’s probably sad that you’re leaving and came in to spend some time closer to you before you go. Now that you’ve left your window open, isn’t it possible all the wild animals in your enchanted forest will come in to hold a going-away party for you??

Sweet little Edgar (the lovely white egret) was just here to see me. He was outside my window about two feet away, clicking his beak, tilting his head left, then right. He just stopped by to say “Hello.”

We love God’s creatures so much we name them. I wonder if they name us. I think they do.

At times there will be thirty or more creatures outside having a little social gathering. Recently I was outside with my neighbor Jeanette and a crow, a laughing gull (Pretty Bird—she’s very beautiful), a wood stork (Woody), a great blue heron (Big Bird), a white egret (Edgar), a snowy egret (Petey), a limpkin and several Ibises; Also a sweet little squirrel (Sherman). Sherman likes to hang out with the birds. There was much conversation and great happiness. I wonder what Sherman and the birds were saying about us and what names they’ve assigned to us. Probably just Beverly and Jeanette. Animals have simple knowingness. They don’t have to think so hard.

I wish I could be there to help you with your move Gloria. I know what you’re going through. I certainly do owe you and am grateful to you for the best memory of my move when I left Fairfield. Most of my furniture was gone with the mover, but I still had to clean and had the entire kitchen (including a very large walk-in pantry) to pack into my car. I had been working through most of the night and you appeared at my door, an angel wearing a big smile and carrying rubber gloves and cleaning supplies. You disappeared into my bathroom and when you came out I was nearly blinded by the sparkle and shine. The bathtub had some permanent flaws that I had learned to live with and overlook, but after your magic that day the flaws were gone and the bathtub looked brand new. When the landlord came in for inspection I immediately showed him the new bathroom. He was very pleased. The apartment was rented that day.
