The Iowa Caucus

Thursday night I went to the Iowa Caucus in Fairfield. I have never been to a caucus before. I didn’t know what it was.

It’s like a primary election except you stay for about two hours, and a certain procedure is followed. You do vote, but you go into groups according to the candidate you vote for. Actually, you go into corners!

As soon as we went into our corners, something changed. As the people who were for the same candidate I was went into our corner, other people went into theirs. This actual physical separation grew into a psychological one, mild, but separate nevertheless. We became US, and they became Them.

All of a sudden, the people in other groups weren’t as smart as we were, and they weren’t as wonderful anymore, simply because they stood in a different group. We became WE and they became THEY.

Being divided into THEM and US seems to be the cause of all the trouble in the world. There weren’t hard feelings, but it wasn’t a good feeling. We were apart from each other. This certainly isn’t what God had in mind.

Of course, later on in February, when one party candidate is chosen, the people in the divergent groups will become one united group again instead of disparate groups. We’ll all rally around the one presidential candidate we are for, and we’ll be back in semi-Unity Consciousness!

One more thing I want to mention.

For a couple of weeks before this caucus, Iowa was wooed by all the political candidates. They all came here, many right to Fairfield, a small town, and some candidates came several times! Wow, did they ever want our votes!

Now that the caucus is over, we won’t see them again! And they will have forgotten all about us. We have outlived our usefulness — until the actual presidential election, that is.

Before I close, just let me mention that this entry isn’t meant to open any discussion of presidential candidates and parties – we’ll stay as One here, okay?

Oh, but it does open the discussion up to the idea of oneness and Oneness.

Just because people may be divergent in physical location AND in intellectual ideas, does not mean, as you well know, that the oneness or the Oneness stops.

Anyway… I am so happy you attended the caucus! It’s an
experience!

May Oneness and oneness prevail on earth.

Of course, you are right, Jacqueline. However, my observation was that, on the surface level, Oneness did not hold!

I remember some studies I read years ago. I believe it was a second grade class that was in the study. The blue-eyed and brown-eyed children were put in two groups. The blue-eyed were designated as the inferior group, and the brown-eyed superior. Everyone knew this was not real, that it was a game really. Nevertheless, the two sides were divided, and the “inferior” blue-eyed children became the scorned ones who had to stick together, and the brown-eyed were the mean ones.

Later the teacher reversed it.The blue-eyed were designated as superior, and the brown-eyed inferior. The same children, and the same thing happened.

There was another study I read about. These were all college students. Randomly, half were made the prisoners, and half the guards. Everyone in the study knew it was an experiment, and yet once into the “game”, everyone took it very seriously. The prisoners quickly became victims, and the guards quickly became cruel. It got so bad, they had to stop the experiment.

I don’t mean to imply that those who are for one candidate and those of another would ever come to blows, but that some situations do not always bring out the best in us.

Jacqueline, I thank you so much for posting.

Divide and conquer is as old as Rome.AS ONE we do not mind if others have different opinions. So let us all be ONE and have our own mind Love you all. Jack

Gloria, I completely get what you mean about THEM and US. Nothing brings out the ego like political campaining and ego is all about dividing groups into THEM or US with statements like: if you are not for us then you must be against us. What falsehood. Thank goodness God has a sense of humor! Yes Jack, lets all have our own minds and be One.
Namaste!

This is a profound observation Senora…how something so small can have such a great effect of separation on the dynamics of the group…we and they.

There was a young saint who addressed the people who would come for darshan as, “Dear I in the form of ladies and gentlemen”.

Isn’t that beautiful! No separation.

Jack’s got it right there, “As One we do not mind if other’s have different opinions.”

Diversity is a fundamental part of our existence. It’s progressive to explore our individuality. Why else would there be so much of it. Just as long we remember that we are expressions of the same One.

Hi, I was intending to (and shall) post a comment of a different nature but I was intrigued by the discussion re the caucus and the “feeling” of separation…I will be involved in that process on Jan 19, as Nevada is an important state (for some reason). Funny, I have had a low level resistance to even finding out about “how to do it”.. must be my resistance to feeling the false sense of separation. Now I understand.
Back to my comment about the wonderful interview with Gloria on the Toginet radio show yesterday. We ran out of time for me to reiterate just how powerful the God Writing Workshops are. It is almost a year since Gloria joined us in Minden, NV in March(on my birthday) for the “dazzling workshop”. Many things have changed since then and have been, no doubt, influenced by the beautiful trnasformational energy that comes with (and from) a Godwriting adventure. Thank you again, for the many Light-heartaed and happy returns from that experience!
