The Golden Door

This whole movie was a work of art. Every screen was the most beautiful photography ever taken. The movie held imaginative touches that were utterly magical.
The Golden Door is about poor immigrants in the early 1900’s. In this case, innocent immigrants from Italy. I thought immigrants are treated badly now – you should have seen how it was then.
The Golden Door starts slowly. The excitement really begins in the last third or so of the movie when the people are on the ship. Even more so when they land at Ellis Island.
Apparently, if you were a woman coming to America at that time, and you had no one in America to sponsor you, you had to get married before you landed. For me, that’s where the movie really began.
The Golden Door deservedly won many awards, but I’ve got to tell you it’s slow-moving until you get on the ship!
