The attributes of God
There is no question but that people are a gift in our lives. However, as Pitta once commented, it is easier to love people when they are loving!
And so there is Heaven Admin. And so there is Effendi, and so there is you. I love you and Heaven Admin and Effendi and I am, without any effort, grateful to to all of you, for, through you, God opens my heart.
Of course, it is the God in you Who opens my heart. Nevertheless, you have all stolen my heart. How happy I am that you have. How happy I am that I am beginning to recognize the One Giver of Love in so many. I am besotted with love for God and all the forms He comes in… well, many of the forms.
Now I want to tell you a difference between Effendi and me. Effendi, like God, is patient. I am not so patient. For example, I want everyone in the world to read Heavenletters. I count numbers. Sadly, I seem to measure the success of a day by how many new Heavensubscribers come.
Effendi is not at all like that. He doesn’t count. He doesn’t try to recruit people to Sufism, not at all. He simply shares God’s love with whoever comes. I am quite sure he doesn’t have a web site. I know he doesn’t have a blog! He doesn’t make TV appearances. He doesn’t promote. He is as happy with ten people as he is with fifty. Effendi simply shares God’s love and leaves it at that.
However, the other evening, someone asked Effendi about what you have to do to become a Sufi. Effendi said that there are three necessary attributes of God we must have in order to become a Sufi:
The first is to love people, a little.
The second is to be generous, a little.
Amazingly, I don’t remember what the third is!
