Right Brain/Left Brain

There are so many ways to look at left brain/right brain. There is definitely the scientific approach, and I have a lot of great material on that.

I won’t be like the people on infomercials that tell you that you have to buy something before you can get the real goods. I will share all the inspiring left-brain scientific data I have that supports the right brain, but some other time.  Right now the right brain is my main joy — original, metaphoric, delightful right brain.

Did you see the movie Patch AdamsIt’s one of my most favorite movies. If you did see the movie, you will know what I mean when I say Patch was definitely right-brain dominant. His left hemisphere was in great shape as well. In med school, he aced 98 on his tests without a whole lot of study. However, he also dared to be right-brain when and where right brain was not welcome.

We can say that med schools in general and the traditional way things are looked at are left brain thinking.  Non-traditional ways are more right brain. We can say that the left brain is Mind, Intellect, Reasoning, and the right brain is Heart, Feelings, Caring. We can say that the left brain is considered proven, and the right brain unproven. The left brain, factual. The right brain, creative. In world terms, we can say that the left brain is the Known, and right brain is the Unknown. Of course, we are all both left brain and right brain, though we can be more dominant in one than the other.

Right brain people are often considered divergent thinkers. Their thinking is not the norm, at least in the Western world. Have not schools primarily been based on left brain convergent thinking which has set answers that are accepted as “right.” No leeway.

There are hundreds of words that represent left brain thinking and hundreds of words that represent right brain thinking. I would love to hear what words you think of as examples. I will mention two right now: Safe/Risky.

Patch took risks. He was definitely imaginative. He wasn’t trying to be imaginative or anything. He saw as he saw, and by taking risks, he broke the mold.

I want to mention that Heaven’s good friend Bernie Siegel, M.D., also did the same. He was an early pioneer of mind/body/spirit medicine.  He had been a surgeon and oncologist for many years. He taught medicine at Yale University Hospital, and came to the point where he simply couldn’t keep doing things the same way. He took a risk and openly proclaimed his vision of embracing more than standard accepted medical practice.  At first, he was scoffed by the other doctors, the same doctors who later followed him. Mind/body/spirit medicine is now mainstream.

What does all this have to do with Godwriting™? It has everything to do with Godwriting. Godwriting cannot be an activity of the left brain. If when we Godwrite™, our left brain is in charge, we won’t be Godwriting. If we are judging, our left brain is running full-speed ahead, and we are getting in the way of Godwriting.

There is no “study” when it comes to Godwriting. There is no perfection. There is no striving for perfection. There is no striving. It is a letting go process. It is a getting out of the way process. There is no effort involved. We even have to get out of the way without effort.

God has said that Godwriting is like Godliving. We take it as it comes. We don’t second-guess life. We don’t second-guess Godwriting.

When you write My words, you do not know where they are going. But you write them anyway.

I may say, “There are three points to consider.” Having no idea what the three points are, you nevertheless write down: “There are three points to consider.” Boldly you write down what you hear Me say. You have trust that that is what I said, and you have trust that you heard it. You have trust enough so that you write it down.

You follow My words. You follow My thought. You follow My Will. That is Godwriting…

Your life falls from My lips like words from your pen. You are My signature. You are the loops of My existence. It is My life you live. You live it for Me. I give you life so that you may come to Me without ever having left.

I worry that all my talking about Godwriting could reduce Godwriting to something it is not. Maybe it is best not to think too much about the Godwriting we get. Godwriting is not something to analyze,  not the Godwriting and not the process.

With this blog entry as a foundation,  in the next blog entry, I would like to respond to some of the recent comments. And, please do keep your questions and comments coming.

I agree that “Godwriting cannot be an activity of the left brain.” The only way we can hear from the Divine is if our ego/left brain steps aside. One of the “Course in Miracles” lessons is “Peace to my mind. Let all my thoughts be still.”

Thank God for Godwriting!
Thank God for this beautiful, bottomless word – Godliving.

But there is no brain, right or left.
As long as we believe in the solidity of walls, trying to walk through them will likely produce bruises and bumps, left and right. Once we drop that belief and all beliefs, everything will move through everything else effortlessly. No obstacle, no advantage, no disadvantage, nothing working, nothing not working.

Well, I’m not there, obviously, and what I’m writing is probably muddle-brain or no-brain. But I do feel this approaching: “Your life falls from My lips….”

This is the first time some one explained Left and right brain, that I can follow. Thank you Gloria. No I have not seen the film I never go and sometimes we see a dvd but very occasionly. Please could you explain the word Metaphoric, Mieke asked the grandson that question only yesterday and I thought to ask an ex teacher and funny you used the word in your opening today. Not so funny really is it, Love you all Jack

How I love to be a teacher! Jack, metaphoric is the adjective for metaphor. A metaphor says that two unlike objects are the same. To complicate, a simile is one kind of metaphor. I believe Robert Burns’ poem says: “My love is like a red, red rose.” That is a simile because it uses the word like.

If Robert Burns said: “My love is a red, red rose,” then that would be a straight metaphor because it doesn’t use the words like or as.

Metaphors are right brain thinking because they are not logical!

When we say, for instance, a hammer is a tool, that is not a metaphor because it is literally true.

I love metaphors. I have more I want to say. That will be its own blog entry another day.

Jack, I love the idea that Mieke used the word metaphoric yesterday, and now today I use it too! There are indeed connections that defy logic!

I love metaphors too!

Ok here are some left/right brain words and phrases

cocoa powder/blissful Godsent magic dust
toothpaste/smile brighter
tea/herbal infusion
surfing/dancing on waves

My brain has frozen over into 2 ice blocks. The right is flavoured with strawberries.

This metaphor describes how I feel now. Time to go to bed!
