Lunch at the Raj
Lately you might have noticed I’ve been having writer’s block. I think I’m a little shell-shocked about all the house-emptying decisions and yard sales and give-aways that I’ve really got to get together. I seem to spend a lot of my time, chewing my nails, running back and forth from one thing to another with little to show for it except panic!
But in this entry, we have a few photos of a more relaxed time at The Raj. The Raj is a premier spa in the little town I live in, and they have a splendid lunch buffet, and the atmosphere is really lovely.
The photo above is of my dear friend Sandra who flew in from Connecticut to spend a little time with me in the cornfields of Iowa. Sandra and I used to teach school together at Kiley Junior High School in Springfield, Massachusetts so many years ago. Sandra taught English across the hall from me. For the three minutes between classes while we were on hall duty, Sandra and I would gab.
Sandra was always one of those rare true friends who really cares about you and are always there for you through thick and thin. I remember I appeared before the School Board requesting a sabbatical (which I didn’t get) and Sandra came with me.
I was Sandra’s matron of honor when she and David were married.
Do you know how sometimes even small memories have an impact, and you never forget them? I remember so well at Sandra and David’s wedding how David held his hand on the small of Sandra’s back. That somehow symbolized for me how much David loved Sandra and would protect her forever.
The threads of life are so amazing. This entry could also have been called Bizarre Connections II, for little did we know that one day I would receive messages from God. Little did we know that Sandra’s husband David would die, and that Sandra would ask questions of God through Heavenletters, and that she would be the Sandra that some of you are familiar with in the Story of the Woman Who Wouldn’t Talk to God.
And now we come to a little bit about lunch at The Raj. The meals are quite sumptuous vegetarian fare. I’m guessing sixteen main entrees plus salad. They have Indian food one day, Mexican another, Asian another etc. On Sundays for their buffet, they mix it up, and dessert is included.
Here’s another bizarre connection. The hostess at The Raj is none other than Sule, a dear subscriber to Heavenletters who is originally from Turkey and who subscribes to Heavenletters in Turkish which Heaven’s dear translator, Engin, translates for us every day from the goodness of her heart. All the translators do it from the goodness of their hearts.
If you read the earlier entry called Bizarre Connections
you already know Sule as the young lady who backed into my daughter’s car! See Sule’s photo below.
I also included photos of the two darlingest and greatest waitresses in the world. I was going to remember their names for sure and which countries they were from, and would you believe I forgot?
But I am going to The Raj again Wednesday with Margaret who does all the proofreading for Heaven, and I’ll get the information about these two girls again and add it to this entry.
Also below you will see the exterior of The Raj. I believe it has 36,000 square feet, and is decorated in French country style. I call it fancy. Maybe when I’m there with Margaret, I’ll take more pictures so you can see what I mean.
