Lotuses of the Air
You know there is only a very short period of time in the spring when the magnolia trees are in bloom. The time is now.
We have three magnolias in our yard, one extremely large. I imagine that it was planted when the house was built, and that was prior to the Civil War.
The blossoms are in jeopardy every year. If there is a frost, they are nipped in the bud. Or if they bloom fully, and there is a heavy rain, then the blossoms float away from the trees and create a carpet on the ground.
When the weather is good, the full blossoming of the magnolias only lasts a short time anyway.
Yesterday, the magnolias were in full bloom, breath-takingly gorgeous.
Then in the middle of the night, there was a long-lasting thunder storm with fairly strong winds.
When the sun came up this morning, I expected to see the trees bared of their blossoms. Although there were petals on the ground, for the most part the blossoms held on, and the trees are still lush. It is an incredible gift to see the magnolias in bloom.
It may be that the blossoms weren’t quite at their peak yet, and that’s how they held on so well. Or maybe it was a plain miracle, and God gave us another day or two to enjoy them.
There was more heavy rain today, and more is predicted, and yet I got to see the magnolias in bloom one more day.
I entitled this entry Lotuses of the Air because many years ago at this time of year when the magnolias were in bloom, God said that magnolia blossoms are the lotuses of the air. And the magnolia blossoms do indeed look like water lotuses.
And now you see, true to my word, I had something to write without resorting to a complaint! As a matter of fact, this entry is pure gratitude.
