Little Garden

Flower garden beauty

In line with the blog entry called Putting First Things First, I still have lots of clearing out to do in my house. It seems to be endless, mostly because I just don’t finish it. I don’t make time to do it. I put other things first. For example, the other day, Walmart had a 50% off sale on plants. Magically, I had time to go there, decide what to buy, and time to plant the already loved plants.

I made a whole little garden right in front of the house where butterfly bushes used to be (I think the man who painted the house last fall killed the butterfly bushes.) I feel so bad for the butterflies who still come here looking for the flowers they had enjoyed for over fourteen years. This fall I will plant a new butterfly bush, and next summer the butterflies will find once again the sweetness they’re looking for. I hope all the back and forth doesn’t make the butterflies neurotic.

Meanwhile, I planted geraniums, lots of basil, a variegated sage, zinnias, dianthis, portulaca, an African daisy, and other annuals I simply don’t know the names of. A few days later I made a run to Hy Vee where plants are now 25 and 50 cents! As if that were not amazing enough, soon after, my daughter found annuals for me at Walmart marked down to 10 and 12 cents!

I know this little garden isn’t exactly impressive — my daughter sees it as sort of a kindergarten garden — but, to me, it’s a fairy garden.

The point of this blog entry is that here I go, finding time to buy plants on sale and plant them and write about them, and somehow not finding time to do the necessary things like getting everything non-essential out of my house.

I was born in New England, where the work ethic is king, but you would think I grew up in another area of the U.S. where pleasure is queen!

You are our butterfly bush always in bloom no matter the season. We butterflies journey near and far to sip your sweetness and fan your heavenly bouquet to the world beyond in the flutter of our wings.

Gloria Dear, GOD gives you time for your garden so enjoy it as you so apparently do. Is live not made for enjoyment? You are making someone else happy with your beautiful garden, when you leave and this someone else takes the house and garden. Making some one happy is that not more important then clearing your home? Once it is cleared is it still a home or only a house? Love Jack

Hello Friend,
Here there are many kindred spirits. I too find it difficult to resist plants on sale and even though i have lots of other things to do i seem to be able to make time to plant. My heart loves planting and watching things grow. They also make a very pleasant sight for the eye at the end of a work day and probably also for those who pass by on their way to some place else.
Love & Hugs,
BettyAnnBrown

Many kindred spirits. Those are just the words I’ve been looking for to express the wonder of those who post here.

I wish we could see pictures of your garden too!
