Life in the Relative World
Every entry in this blog could be called Life Is Amazing, for amazing can mean many things.
Let me bring you up to date on what’s been happening in my life.
My long-time dear friend, Nancy, from Pennsylvania recently visited here. Nancy has sponsored two Godwritingâ„¢ workshops in Reading, and she is good at it.
Nancy and I met in Flaine, France, about thirty years ago. Ouch, can it be that long ago? Interestingly, I also met Margaret who proofs for Heavenletters in Flaine at the same time, and both Nancy and Margaret continue to be two of my dearest friends.
For those of you who are familiar with the story of Diane and Molly – Paula has translated the story into Italian – and Berit translated it into German – (Molly was three years old when she died) — well, Diane is married to Nancy’s brother so Diane and Nancy are sisters-in-law, and Nancy was Molly’s aunt, of course. It is because of Nancy that I was blessed to meet Molly and her mother, Diane.
Isn’t it amazing how intricately the threads of life are woven together?
On this visit, Nancy discovered poison ivy in my yard. How many years has the poison ivy been in my yard, and I had no idea, and didn’t come down with it. I must have walked past it a hundred times and probably touched it etc. But the day Nancy was leaving, she pointed the poison ivy plants out to me, and then I was no longer innocent.
That very day, I became impossibly itchy.
The next day poison ivy came into full bloom all over my face and neck, and my right eye was so swollen it looked like a water balloon. I was not very pretty. Fortunately, no one was around to take my picture.
If Nancy hadn’t told me about the poison ivy, I am convinced I wouldn’t have come down with it!
One more outstanding incident about Nancy’s visit. When Nancy was about thirty miles or so out of town on her way back to Pennsylvania, she saw a school bus that had been converted into a motor home with a big FOR SALE sign on it!
Wouldn’t I love to tell you that this is the perfect motor home for us, and wouldn’t that make a great story — Nancy comes out from Pennsylvania and locates the perfect motor home for the trip to Argentina! That would be fabulous!
I have the owner’s phone number, but every time I call, I get a busy signal or no answer. I’ll keep trying, so I just don’t know the outcome though I expect this is not our motor home. When things work out, usually it is easier than this.
In a week, another friend is coming to visit. This is Sandra. Sandra and I taught across the hall from each other at Kiley Junior High School in Springfield, Mass. In the three minutes between classes, we got to know each other very well. I stood up for Sandra when she and David married. She has known my daughter, Lauren, since Lauren was five years old in kindergarten. I love it when friends stay connected.
Incidentally, I think Paula also translated the story of Sandra and David into Italian. We’ll have to think of a way to get the complete stories of Diane and Molly and Sandra and David up in English somewhere. These stories are a series of questions each asked God, and God’s answers. The beautiful thing is that you see Diane and Sandra grow before your very eyes through God’s love and wisdom. These are two dynamite stories.
Meanwhile, there is a surprising connection that happened at the Farmer’s Market this morning, the kind of thing that you could never make up. In this case, it’s not anything you would want to have happen. This will have to wait for another entry.
