Lauren signs a lease

Where Lauren lives now in Fairfield, she has gorgeous pastoral scenes of trees and flowers and more trees and flowers.  For many years, Lauren has had a feast of astounding rural beauty. And now she is going to have a feast of urban beauty.

Yesterday she found a studio apartment in Chicago. She loved the feel of it. Her apartment has a whole wall of windows overlooking Lake Michigan and the skyline of Chicago. She loves the building. Listen to this: dogs are welcome! Her apartment is right near a dog beach and other trails.

Lauren went apartment-hunting with an agent, Samantha, and Lauren’s new friend in Chicago, Karen, a friend of a friend. Karen was there, by her own admission, to protect Lauren from being taken advantage of. Karen doesn’t trust agents. Karen was keen on taking Lauren around to apartments herself in the afternoon.

The agent took them to quite a few places, none of which felt right to Lauren or Karen UNTIL one apartment that happens to be on the 18th floor.  Before Lauren could say, “I want this one,” skeptical Karen said. “Lauren, take it!”

So Lauren has signed a lease. She doesn’t get in until July 15, possibly a few days earlier.

Lauren’s new apartment is on Lake Shore Drive. I’ve heard of it!

Ah! Is that where the band Chicago are from? I read that Chicago is a hot spot for Jazz! Awesome. The wiki says the worlds first skyscraper was built in Chicago.

Thank you One and Jack for your kind words. This is an adventure!

I fell in love with building first - they allow dogs, which is rare for a rental, and every time we got into an elevator, someone was there with their dog(s). There was a lady in a motorized chair, and her dog was trained to jump on the base of it and get a ride.

Then the view sold me, once I saw some studios in the building. The lake and the skyline. The other apartments I looked at had views of walls, and I had sold myself on the urban experience, until I saw the wonderful view from my new apartment.

And I have always wanted to visit Australia:)
