Dear Mike and Nance,

How is Jack settling in?  I miss him a lot, but know he will be happier with you, and the environment you can give him.

I know my mom wants to come visit Jack - I would of course love to see him, but don’t want to interfere in any way with his settling in with you. As his new parents, what do you think is best?

Hope everything is going very well for you,

Lauren

Lauren,

Jack is settling in well.

For the first few days I thought we had another pet, and that was okay but not ideal.

But Jack showed me you can’t judge a book by the cover. From scared and timid to all out machine in a matter of overnight!  We need to teach him to control his excitement and speed and to make this a job rather than a game.  Maybe a little of each if it keeps him interested.

As far as a visit, feel free.  He has settled in well and seems to be very content with his new home and family.

Mike and Nance

Dear and Faithful Blogreaders, this coming Friday it is. A visit with Jack. I will remember my camera or never talk to myself again.

YEAH! WOOHOOO! I was so hoping that an invitation to visit would be issued. I think Jack will be extremely pleased to see you and thankful that you provided him with such love and care while finding him his proper home. In a previous blog you had stated that Jack immediately settled down when the decision was made to find a country home for him. And it seems you found the perfect one. Jack proved to be eminently trainable, so I’m sure they will have no problem teaching him his job/game. Wow. From pet to powerhouse overnight. This dog is in heaven.

Well done! I’m so glad you will both see your beloved Jack again, (and share the photos). In my experience, taking the separation in gentle stages can ease the pain. I bet Jack will be so happy and proud to show you his new digs and new skills and new buddies and pets—his chickens and sheep. And he will sense your loving approval of his new life and know his two angels are okay. What a wonderful reunion for all of you! If only all of our lessons in letting go and loving without attachment could play out so perfectly!

You’ll “never talk to yourself again?” That I would pay money to see. So glad you are going to see Jack. Give him a pat for me.
