Housekeeping on the Internet

Consider the internet my house. There are some areas of my house that are immaculate.

Compare reckless spam to dustballs under the bed. I lie in wait for those dustballs  ready to pounce on them the minute they arrive. They don’t stand a chance. I hold the mouse in my hand like a dustmop, and no spam is left unscathed. I am merciless when it comes to those dustballs. You might say I’m obsessive. Hah, O you greeting cards that descend — no matter how many of you there are — you will never get past me. You are gone in a flash. Out out, brief spam.

There are other parts of my internet house that are more like stuffed closets. There are emails I  must keep to read over some day. They have given me their joy, and I don’t want to part with them. I may be surprised when I come across them again, having forgotten them.  They are memoirs. They are like great coats I don’t wear any more, and yet I might have use for them some day.

I would have stayed here longer to tell you more, to tell you everything actually, but I am on alert for pushy spam, and I must get back to spotlessness.

Meanwhile, perhaps you will fill in for me and tell us more about your housekeeping on the internet.

I am probably one of the last people one should look to for advice about using emails and the internet, but I can really empathize with you on spam, so I will at least try to help.

I have an AT&T email site that allows me to set up and store old emails in named folders in a very efficient and organized fashion. I suspect you already do this, but if you don’t………

A second, possibly useful, piece of advice is to use the specific spam blocking utility that I think most email programs allow. These block the specific address that a given spam sender uses. Once you take the few seconds to do this on a given piece of spam, no more from that site! Of course some serious spammers use multiple sites to send out their spam, but this utility still cuts it way back. I suspect you already do this too.

Maybe others more sophisticated than us have useful ideas beyond these obvious ones. I will await with interest.

Love…….Chuck

Beloved Chuck, good to see you posting here again!

I’m in a rush so can only respond quickly.

When all is said and done, there is very little spam that I receive! Heaven Admin works his magic to protect my Inbox. None of the obnoxious spams reach me.

Lately I’m getting a lot of You have an e-card and harmless ones like that seem to stop by themselves after a while!

Loving you,

Gloria

The greeting card spam is a new one. The spammers are getting more and more inventive. With the e-card type spam, a Google page is created with the advertisement and the e-card contains only a link to the page. Very difficult for spam filters to block. Good thing they don’t stand a chance with you waiting to pounce on them.
