Equalizers

Hasn’t it been said that there are two things that everyone shares in common — death and taxes?

Now there is another equalizer. It is spam.

The other day, Heaven Admin, who is always thinking of ways to make everything easier and better for everyone, asked me about how many spams I receive.  Not so many. A lot go into my junk box and spam doesn’t bother me there — and only a few in my inbox. Of course, it’s Heaven Admin who prevents a lot of spam from reaching me.

Somehow, it wasn’t until Heaven Admin wrote me about this that it dawned on me that he gets spam too.  All that he does for so many, and still he gets spam. It just never had occurred to me.

And then, in my brilliance, I thought: Everyone does! Everyone who is on the internet gets spam!

All the beautiful people who post on this blog and post on this forum also get spam!

Jack Van Raders gets spam! Everyone!

Fortunately, we also share other things — like Heavenletters! Next to Heavenletters, spam seems like a little incidental thing.

The thing about spam is, is that it works. It generates profit for business that use spam. If it did not work, there would be nobody investing in sending out spam.

Incidentally, it’s very easy to be a spammer. Using open source software, one could easily harvest email addresses and access email lists to send out spam to millions of people, from a home computer.

Yes, spam is just incidental. When I have a Heavenletter in my inbox, I hardly even notice myself deleting a few spam emails.

Senora, our filters redirect 1000s of unwanted emails to your once publicly available email account!
