Do We Visit Jack
I very much want to visit Jack. Lauren would love to, too, of course.
We forgot all his chewy toys that were at my house, and they are his, and he should have them. He will share gladly with Chance, his Australian Shepherd buddy, and I want to take him some fresh homemade milk kefir which he just loved every day when he lived in Fairfield. Also, as you know, I forgot to take my camera with me the day we took Jack to his new home, and I promised you photos.
Lauren isn’t sure that our visiting Jack would be the best thing for Jack. I can’t be sure either.
So, after Jack’s email yesterday, Lauren emailed Jack back to ask him how he felt about it. We’ll leave it up to him and his new family and see what they say.
There is no doubt that Lauren worked wonders with Jack. Jack went from stark fear of a leash, riding in a car, and going into a house to pure delight in them. When we first rescued him, he didn’t know what a toy was. Before he left, he was tossing them up into the air.
Had Lauren taken Jack to a shelter, even a wonderful one like Noah’s Ark here and Melody Coulter’s in Ottumwa, how could he have gotten the good care and attention he needed and that Lauren was able to give him? As it was, Noah’s Ark had a dog wagon come. Doesn’t that sound ominous? Dog wagon? But it’s not a bad thing. It takes the dogs up north where there are better chances of a good home for them. But that would not have been helpful to Jack. Who knows what he might have been like in circumstances where he might have been unloved or not so loved.
Lauren would be the first to say that the credit goes to Jack, his sweetness and his eagerness to please. And he was so intelligent.
As Lauren says, he trained us. When he sat, he knew we would instantly give him a treat. Jack trained us well.
