Correspondence about Jack, the Border Collie
Jack is getting closer to having acres to run on, having a dog companion, and sheep to herd. And now other good possibilities also turn up.
From Mike who has 50 sheep:
Lauren,
My schedule for the next couple of weeks is kinda weird. We will be home Wednesday afternoons and all day Fridays and Saturdays late afternoon. My wife and I would both like to be home for this meeting and although one of us is always home it’s hard to catch us both at home at the same time.
If you can make it one of these days our place is just north of the square in —– the first gravel road to the west. ( we have a sign Farm Fresh Eggs)
Let me know if any of these will work for you, Thanks
Mike
From Gloria to Mike:
Dear Mike,
Lauren asked me to write on Jack’s behalf.
Jack would like to visit with you and Nance this Friday, October 3. Do we understand that you will be home all day Friday?
If we visit you at about 10 a.m., does that work for you? If 10 a.m. is not good for you, what time would you like?
Lauren asked if you would be so kind as to give us your phone number. You gave good directions, but just in case we somehow get lost. Did she give you her phone number? XXX XXX XXXX That’s her cell phone, and she always has it with her.
We all look forward to hearing from you – and to meeting you Friday.
With love and blessings,
Gloria
Mike to Gloria:
Gloria, Friday is fine and the time is okay as well. Our home phone is X and my cell is X, and I’ll leave it on since I know you’re coming. We are looking forward to meeting you both and of course Jack.
See you tomorrow.
Mike
From Pam to Lauren:
I saw the info on Jack and wanted to ask more about him. We currently have two border collie rescues, one from Midwest Border Collie Rescue (an 8-9? year old male, Spencer) and one from Wisconsin Border Collie Rescue (a 13 year old female, Paisley). Both great dogs that don’t have problems with other dogs. We had another border named Nell that passed away last September, old age. So, we are ready to find another dog that needs a home and Jack looked like he could be a good fit. Please let me know where things stand with him and how he is doing.
Thanks,
Pam
From Lauren to Pam:
Hi Pam,
I’ll give you the basics on Jack, and feel free to ask anything else you would like to know.
I found him in a nearby park, very skinny and covered in matt and fleas and ticks. He cleaned up beautifully of course, and is really a special dog. He loves people, other dogs, and is good with my cat. I have completely fallen in love with him, but do not have the right environment for a Border Collie. He needs other dogs to play with, and more exercise and stimulation than I can give him. He needs a lot of love, and I think he was abandoned - he still worries a bit.
The vet thinks he is about a year old. When I got him he couldn’t walk on a leash, or ride in the car, and I suspect he had not spent much time indoors. He walks with a leash like a pro now, loves car rides, either was already housebroken, or is just really smart.
Jack is really a wonderful dog. Everybody falls in love with him.
I am going to be out of town tomorrow through Thursday, and am not sure where you are located. There is a couple that has emailed me about Jack. Naturally, I want him to be in the best place for him.
My cell number is X, feel free to call or email with questions, or to schedule a meeting with Jack!
Lauren
From Pam to Lauren:
Lauren,
Thanks for getting back to me about Jack. He does sound like a wonderful dog. My husband is out of town until Saturday, so we haven’t had a chance to talk further about this, but as soon as he returns I’ll contact you.
Thanks again and give him a pat for me,
Pam
PS Where are you located? We live northwest of Chicago.
Gloria to Pam:
Dear Pam,
Lauren asked me to write to you on Jack’s behalf.
It’s clear you love border collies, and that Jack would have a good time with you and your husband and Spencer and Paisley — lots of friendship and love.
This Friday we are visiting a small sheep farm about an hour away from here, owned by a couple who want to meet with Jack. We will see what that brings. We will let you know as soon as we know. If this somehow doesn’t work out, you may be sure we will find a way for Jack to meet you and your family.
We gave Jack a pat from you, and he liked it.
With love and blessings,
Gloria
Gloria to Pam (again) :
Dear Pam,
Forgot to tell you where we live.
Fairfield, Iowa
We would drive up to where you are.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
With love and blessings,
Gloria
Pam to Gloria:
Gloria,
Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll wait to hear from you about this weekend, whatever is best for Jack is fine with me. A sheep farm would probably be a border collie’s ultimate playground. I hope it works out for him.
Pam
So, dear Heavenreaders who have followed Jack’s story, our visit is tomorrow (Friday). We will take photos and hopefully by Sunday, we can give you the Fare Thee Well, Jack entry, including photos.
