Angels everywhere
Sometimes I do have to wonder.
You may remember that Walmart came up on the forum the other day because God in a Heavenletter said something about the rollbacks at Walmart. I love Walmart.
The next day I went to Walmart! I went to get a tension curtain rod to hang that black and white Thai skirt on and a few other diddlies for my room.
When I was ready to check out, there were only two open check-out lanes.
Then another check-out lady appeared and opened another lane, and the people who had lined up after me naturally got to the head of the new line.
I almost had the thought: “Wouldn’t you know. Gloria is still last in line. Why can’t a new check-out open up and I can be first?” It wasn’t quite a thought, maybe just the impulse of a thought not yet quite popping out onto the surface — yet the thought was there.
Lo and behold, that very instant a lady opened a new check-out lane right across from me and waved me over to her. She smiled and said, “You can come here.”
Imagine my delight! I pranced right up to her lane and plopped down my curtain rod, safety pins, and little hooks.
I said to this lady — her badge read Pam — she was about fifty years old with long blond hair and a beautiful smile — “Did you just come to work?”
She said, “No. I’ve been working since 10:30. I go home at 6:30, just half an hour to go. I was sweeping, and then I saw a sweet lady, and I thought I would open a lane for her.”
She meant me!
Wow, as you can imagine, I swaggered out of that store.
Here are my afterthoughts and questions:
If Walmart had not been discussed on the forum, if I hadn’t appreciated Walmart, would this incredible customer service have happened?
If I had not vaguely thought: “How I wish a new register would open up,” would it have?
Could it be that Pam was a bona-fide angel who appeared just for those few moments? (But why? Why for such a little thing? Angels have better things to do.)
Or was she a real employee who worked there?
But, of course, she was. I saw her badge.
