Amazing Connections

When I was in junior high school, I filled my spare time with writing down great quotations from what I was reading.

I read a lot of classics then. I think they’re considered classics. Jane Eyre. Wuthering Heights. The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

It was my most favorite thing to collect quotations.

Years later, when I was teaching school, it was also a favorite thing I did to write down great quotes from what I was reading. At that time I would share these gems with my classes.

I also remember collecting all the ways that old novels said “he said,” like “murmured, uttered, apostolated, declaimed, inquired…” There were a million ways the older books said “he said” or “I said.” And, back then, to my eyes, the more unusual, the better, the longer the word, the better.

I thought of these things this morning because I have been collecting God quotations from Heavenletters™ for the calendar e-book Heaven Admin and Mariano are putting together for us. It is going to be beautiful the way it is designed, and with all the heart they are putting into it.

Anyway, this morning I murmured to myself: “Plucking quotes from Heavenletters is my most favorite thing to do.”

Then I remembered how much I used to love to collect quotes back in junior high school and later. And now I am doing it again and loving it. Of course, I never had any idea that I would do this so many years later with Heavenletters. Was I even back then unknowingly preparing? Was I guided?

If I had been asked way back then what I most wanted to do in life, it would not have occurred to me to say that I wanted to be a collector of worthy quotations, and yet I could say that now.

And then I also remembered all the fancy ways I wrote down of how to say “he said,” and when it came to Heavenletters, I chose the simplest of all — “God said” — without a moment’s hesitation.

It must be that everything is connected. And even dropped stitches get picked up later. It sure seems so.

If only I had known back then that I was purposively moving forward, how happy I would have been, but I didn’t have a clue.

Do you think of anything from your past that has somehow manifested in a way you hadn’t dreamed of?

I used to stick my head in a big bucket of water and hold my breath! Now I find that all those “breathing excercises” help with hatha yoga practice and scuba diving.

It’s perfect that you are enjoying the selection of quotes.I can hardly imagine how you manage to select quotations when there are so many that can be taken from any one Heavenletter.

Here’s an idea. How about looking for quotes for the month you are working on, in Heavenletters that were published in the very same month. For example, when selecting quotations for August 2009, you would look at Heavenletters published in August 2002, 2003 …

By the longer entries, I take it your arm is healing well!

That is so funny! You used to soak your head! And now you put your breathing practice to good use! I love it.

Figure Skating and Springboard diving was my favorite thing and I still can keep my balance better than expected at my age. I do not even need walking sticks when I take our dog for his morning walk, all of 200 meters. Sticking head in water and holding my breath, no but something simular, but all the benefits from that got lost by smoking a carton of Camel Plain a week, for about 60 years. I have given them away now for the last 2 years or so. My exersize now is getting up and go and find some sweets and getting rounder by the day. Every day I decide to do something about it and than I forget. Forgetfulness seems to be my favourate thing now a days. I never forget I love you All though. Jack

Beloved Jack, you exercise your heart with so much love. That is the best exercise of all. You are an expert. We all feel your love here.

Indeed, holding my breath under water was one the favorite games with my friends. As well who managed not to laugh when the others made all kind of faces to you ! I’m still not able to stay serious today !… I was wondering off to childhood, sorry. I have always loved animals so much and this has never changed. I have a lot of pets and to me they are my angels. I love to be able to help others, but when I think of helping animals my heart beats faster and I know that this is what I’d love most doing.

Happy New Year Gloria and Godwriting Bloggers,
I’m chiming in very late here, but I confess that I share your love affair with a well turned phrase, Gloria! It didn’t start with reading for me, but with song lyrics. Coming of age in a time when pop music lyrics were often poetic, I could be stopped dead in my tracks by a line broadcast over my radio. It sort of evolved over time to include novels, essays, poems, bumper stickers, comic strips, movie and play lines, Heavenletters…I still jot down a zinger that speaks to me from the daily Heavenletter in a journal just for that purpose. And I love remembering favorite lines of loved ones who have passed on. It’s like a visit from them.
I hope your arm is mending, Angel.
Love to All,
Jo

Beloved Jo, it’s sure nice to have you back!

Any of those zingers from Heavenletters you feel like sending my way, please do. You can post them here. If you will, put quote first, then #, title, and that permanent link. But if just the number, that helps. This is for Calendar book. First six months should go out soon, but I’m still compiling October, November, and December.

Arm is healing well, I believe. Doctor gave me exercises to do for range of motion. Am supposed to continue to wear immobilizer except when I’m exercising.

Back for x-rays in three weeks, and fracture should healed.

Thank you for asking!

Hello Gloria,
I’d be happy to post some of thoses Heavenletter zingers. Unfortunately, until this moment, I have been identifying them by date, only. Not their number or title. So, I will begin to keep better track of the number and title.
I’m so glad that your arm is healing nicely. Learning how to live with only one working arm is a life lesson in gratitude and appreciation, isn’t it?
A couple favorite HeavenLetter zingers:

“Love will wear down any barrier” 10/17/08

“Your fate is not what appears in front of you. Your fate is how you deal with what appears in front of you.”
6/17/08

“A human being is Oneness made unique.” 7/21/08

“To love is not a burden. To love is your release from anything less.” 5/11/08

“All of life is a preparation for letting go.” 4/28/08

These are fabulous, beloved Jo. I’m pretty sure I can track down the Heavenletters themselves. This is a huge help. Muchas gracias!
