All My Computer Woes Aren’t Bill Gates’ Doing

Just think of it, my computer woes are infinite! They doggedly follow me all the way to Phoenix.

First of all, Carol Maurer, who is sponsoring the workshop and cares deeply for Heavenletters and my comfort, added a wireless modem to where I am staying so that I will have the use of my laptop. Carol, God bless her, got me all set up and ready to go.

Then the monkey business began.   I can receive my email, but cannot send.  What is the meaning of this?

Goodness always wins, so I found a way to send from something called Squirelmail that Heaven Admin had told me about long ago. I was totally thrilled with myself for finding the URL and Heaven Admin’s instructions so I can proudly continue to send  the day’s written Heavenletter to the right places and all.

There have also been essential emails. You note I say essential because I am reformed. I only do Heaven business now.

Heaven Admin and Annette, who make it possible for Heavenletters to reach you, fortunately were receiving my emails. However, it took me a few days to discover that my other emails through Squirrelmail were not reaching anyone! Somehow, the Squirrelmail program got kinda squirrely and was taking the liberty of changing the email addresses I entered. Here’s what Squirrelmail did:

Sample Email Address: John@yahoo.com

What Squirrelmail changed it to: John@heavenletters.org

Heaven Admin and Annette received what I sent them because they do have heavenletter email addresses!

I was ready to run crying to Heaven Admin when Carol, like a detective, delved further. She must be some kind of computer genius because she outwitted Squirrelmail, and,  because I didn’t have to send Heaven Admin an S.O.S., he was able to sleep through the night.

What is this with computers!

Can it be me?

The thing about getting online and having your e-mail work when you are traveling is you must be able to access from the web rather than your usual mail program. As for the Squirrel mail, I have no idea how I ascertained that just typing in the address rather than cutting and pasting from the address book would work — I just keep trying different things sometimes until something possibly works. So we got lucky. But I prefer to call it Divine Intervention!
