Back in 4th grade

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

God writes a lot about ego. Many of our desires are to gratify ego. Certainly, not all our desires are on behalf of ego. Today I will tell you one incident from my 4th grade school year with Miss Smith. Tomorrow I will tell about  a second incident. This first incident unquestionably had to do with ego, my ego.  I speculate that the second incident was not ego but something else, something else much more significant of — something. (more…)

Binary thinking

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

I seem to feel that I am always to give people a chance and one more chance and another and another.

Of course, on the face of it, that’s right. But I see now that, in too many cases, I have been taking away another’s sense of responsibility and making it my own. (more…)

A difference between Wally and me

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

 wally.jpg

You remember Wally, don’t you? He was my eighth grade English student quite a few years ago. He meant a lot to me then, and he means a lot to me now. I modestly take credit for all he knows, and he knows a lot. Meanwhile, I learn from him. (more…)

Writing the date on the blackboard

Monday, September 6th, 2010

It is more years than I like to think of since I stopped teaching English in junior high school. Why now, I wonder, am I thinking of that little daily act of writing the date on the blackboard? (more…)

One of the things I keep learning again and again

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

I keep learning again and again — because I keep forgetting — and what I keep learning is to let sleeping dogs lie.

Heaven Admin keeps reminding me: (more…)

How to find the Heavenletter Spiritual Community Forum

Friday, June 18th, 2010

“OK,  then, please tell me what is the Forum all about. I always thought it was for comments on God’s advice in Heaven Letters,  and who am I to comment on God? See my comment on previous blog. Never mind, I am looking forward to lessons from my favourite teacher. Love to all of you and have a fun Day!  Jack” (more…)

Jack and I continued

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Note: in response to Jack’s response to last blog entry, I was going to save this blog entry, and give one of my super-duper computer lessons instead! I was going to send my prize student, Jack, to the forum in such an easy way. HOWEVER, so far this morning, the web site is misbehaving.  The last thing I’m going to do is to send someone to the website when it’s not working right and frustration is guaranteed! So, Jack, be sure to tune in tomorrow. And here’s what I had initially prepared for today:   (more…)

My Cousin Francis 3 and more about my mother

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Even as I write, I do not know how I can write all this about my mother. She would be pained at hearing the accounts I give of her, and she would be hurt at my disloyalty. What I say would hurt her heart, and I yet I am writing down for all the world to see these stories as I observed them and see them now. I tell her stories as objectively as I can, and, still, it is not fair. Sure, these are my stories too, and, yet, it is not fair. My mother, like all of us, had her illusions. We have to have them. She had to have them. We all seem to have to keep our illusions intact. (more…)

Mr. Brown, English teacher

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Here’s another story from Kiley Junior High School.

Mr. Brown was the head of English at Kiley Junior High School when I taught there. You remember that all the principal, Mr. Spring, knew about English teaching, he had learned from Mr. Brown, and this had not exactly made my way of teaching look good.

Mr. Brown was so old school, the kids and I found him a terror. (more…)
