God bless Andrew Carnegie

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Andrew Carnegie from Scotland was the man who started libraries. Libraries sure caught on. I don’t know what I would have done without public libraries and the books I could take out so easily. Books are my companions, and some have stayed in my heart from childhood on. I cannot imagine a life without books and easy accessibility to books. (more…)

Why are some books written?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

My daughter mentioned that Martha Stewart’s daughter wrote a book that was depreciating of Martha Stewart. I remember that Joan Crawford’s daughter wrote a terrible tale about her mother. None of our mothers are perfect, yet to publish a diatribe against your mother? To publish a book that probably wouldn’t be published if the daughter were not the daughter of the famous person? This feels like infamy to me. (more…)

A sacred relationship

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Just before Heaven Admin invited me to South Africa, I had finished reading a book that takes place in Africa.  In Kenya. The name of the book is Nowhere in Africa by Stephanie Zweig. It is an autobiographical novel. It was also made into a movie.

Getting rid of ego

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

It is a difficulty, isn’t it, getting rid of ego. It keeps cropping up.

Without ego, anyone’s ego, what would life be? It would be a relief. We could breathe deeply.

I just read an article in Transcendence e-zine. Transcendence is published once a month on the full moon, and, God bless them, they highlight Heavenletters so beautifully.

The Great Escape 1

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

For me, the Great Escape is reading books. The best reading, of course, is a great novel, or a biography or other non-fiction that grips me, yet even a suspenseful spy or detective or legal thriller will do.

I ask myself what is it exactly that I have to escape? I have no answer to that. It’s just I have to get away every once in a while. (more…)

The Divine and the human

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

The Divine and the human are such a contradiction — I seem to be incapable of reconciling them.

When I read over a Heavenletter or see a quote from Heavenletters™ somewhere, I am so impressed with the simplicity, wisdom, and love that falls off the page right into my heart.

The biggest wonder is that somehow, by some quirk of fate — or is it faith? — (more…)

Kathryn Stockett is the author of The Help. I read The Help a while ago. I did mention the book  in a blog. I had to return the book to the library before I had made the time to write a real review.

My friend Tracey Bennett in Hawaii (more…)

chellie_campbell_004a-480.jpg

There is an earlier blog about Chellie and all she gained from a book that had a great influence on her. That blog entry is called The Big Confrontation. The book that Chellie learned from is When I Say No, I Feel Guilty by Manuel Smith.  http://www.godwriting.org/godwriting/the-big-confrontation-assertiveness.htm

Chellie’s second mighty insight and experience about speaking up for herself (more…)
