Good times raising my daughter

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

I wanted Lauren very much.

I nursed her.

I was able to be home with her until she was four.

I read her stories. It was a mutual delight. I discovered Winnie the Pooh, and loved it. Lauren loved it too.

The heat of South Africa and more

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Every day I have experienced wonderful breezes in South Africa. Some of the time — and remember this is summer here –  I have felt chilly at night.

Heaven Admin told me that the African sun is hotter than the sun I know in the west. Because the sun here is so bright, it’s better to walk on the beach before 8:30 a.m. or after 5:30 in the afternoon.

The houses I have been blessed to stay in (more…)

More about monkeys

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Of course, I have great empathy for the moneys here who live on their own. They don’t understand stealing. They are simply looking for food to eat, and they have to live by their wits.

Nevertheless, the  monkeys here in Palm Beach, South Africa, (more…)

Sea Fever by John Masefield

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way, where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

Before we left Durban for the South Coast, Heaven Admin took me to the Indian Ocean in Durban, South Africa, and we walked barefoot in the sand. (more…)

Bird Songs

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

In today’s Heavenletter, #3821, God’s Cry,  Chuck copied down a quote from it on the forum: “The bluebird of happiness sings in your own backyard.” That is such a sweet sentence. (more…)

Talk about inspiration!

This is sunset, January 31, 2011. The photographer, Kathryn Peiman, is in a boat traveling in the Northern Bahamas from Lynyard Cay to Abaco. The land we see in the distance is Abaco where Kathryn is doing her PhD. bird studies.  It is so easy to see from the photos below how much Kathryn loves her chosen field of study. (more…)
